Traditional Natural Handmade Soap

About Us

About Us

The Calder Valley Natural Soap Company has been dedicated to producing luxurious natural soap for well over a decade in the beautiful wooded valleys of Calderdale, high in the Pennines of West Yorkshire. The brand name itself was taken from a local stream called Elphin Brook.

Owners and soapers, Geoff Kerouac and Rob Costello are united in a passion for sustainability and quality that permeates every aspect of the business, starting with a dedication to using the traditional Cold Process, which not only generates zero by-produce but also allows us to choose every ingredient ourselves. As little energy as possible is used throughout production, as we pour, cut and stamp every bar of soap using human power alone. We also try, when ever possible, to hand pick or grow our own botanicals which, along with spices, are all we use to decorate our soap. Our user-friendly display and gift boxes are recycled, fully recyclable and individual soap is carried home in paper bags reducing the use of plastic as much as we can.

The Calder Valley Natural Soap Company is totally apposed to using chemical preservatives and foaming agents as added ingredients. We believe there is simply no need for them. By using the traditional Cold Process and choosing the right combinations of oils, a rich, silky, highly moisturizing and long lasting soap can be produced with out going anywhere near SLS, SLES or Parabens.

directly from PREP, a company which supports the production of RSPO Certified Sustainable Palm Oil under the Greenpalm programme and the Shea Butter we use is certified Fairtrade and Organic, sourced from a Women's Workers Coop in Ghana.

All our soap has been registered with the Vegan Society and is BUAV Approved, so you can be assured that no animals have been harmed in anyway by our soap production and because we only use Greenpalm when using palm oil, we are aiming to help preserve the natural habitat of animals such as the Orangutan and Sumatran Tiger by encouraging farmers to produce with sustainability in mind.

We are also very proud to donate our off-cuts to: SAMS a recycling charity, THE BOOTH CENTRE supporting the homeless and CULTURE SHOCKS benefiting the people of a small village in The Gambia. This means there is absolutely no waste at all, from start to finish.

Though we pay a lot of attention to maintaining our soap's eco-credentials, we never take our eyes off the ultimate goal of producing a high standard and affordable luxury natural soap with a delicate array of fragrances, which is kind, gentle and naturally moisturizing, even for those with the most sensitive of skin types.

Enjoy.
